Welcome to a spectacular year for Asian partnerships
It has been a spectacular year for Asian partnerships – the UK India Year of Culture has spurred on many of Britain’s cultural institutions to host an array of flagship events celebrating the arts, culture, language and relationships between the two countries – and we have seen the rise of the New North South network to bring prominence to the work of leading Bangladeshi, Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan and UK artists. The network consists of eleven arts organisations from across the North of England and South Asia to enhance intellectual exchange to celebrate shared heritage across continents and develop artistic talent and will include new artistic commissions, exhibitions and performances in Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool and in Colombo, Dhaka, Lahore, Karachi and Kochi.
5th Edition of the UK’s Asian Power Couples Hot 100
This is the fifth edition of the definitive list of the UK’s Asian Power Couples Hot 100 and this year I am delighted that one in five of the list comprises couples who are new to the list – many of the newcomers are younger too, working in sectors previously not featured in this list, like healthcare, design and the arts.
Sadly, this means we have had to wish farewell to many, not because they are any less of a “power couple” but many have emigrated and this is a list of those primarily resident in the UK. As with any list there are spectacular break-ups too – divorces and business dissolutions – but the spirit of togetherness will always live on. I have defined the entry criteria for selection for this curated list so please take a moment to take a look.
Unlike any Rich List, the Asian Power Couples list is not about how much money you make, but about what you do. However, it is particularly pleasing to see the unsurpassed level of charitable giving by so many of those featured; either directly to individual institutions, via charity fundraisers or dedicated campaigns. The task of selecting the Top 5 Couples in Philanthropy was all the more difficult because nearly all top 100 are involved in fundraising and charitable ventures. It is heartening that just as the UK has been good to so many Asian immigrants, many are now paying back through social, societal and community initiatives for the benefit of Britain.
The purpose of the Asian Power Couples Hot 100 2018 list is to showcase and celebrate the dynamism and energy of couples and pay homage to the true advancement and innovations that can come from two successful people working together; combining their efforts to better themselves, their families and often their communities.
So here it is, The Asian Power Couples Hot 100 2018. Enjoy!
